RubberGum™

RubberGum™
RubberGum black background RubberGum™ is a new product launched by Insignia, and it is a specialised fixing seal for shower cubicles, toilets, basins and many other items. It is a silicone alternative, creating a water tight seal when fixing items, whether it is your new Insignia shower cabin, or something outside of the bathroom entirely. It can be used to assist with worktops in the kitchen, and especially the tricky kitchen sink, which is usually placed into a cut-out of a worktop or surface. RubberGum™ is not limited to the bathroom, but is an all round household accessory, making your life easier. It negates the need for silicones in many situations, which as we all know, can be a messy business. One slip and your carpet could be ruined. RubberGum™ is clean, and simple, available on a roll, in a blu-tack style form, kept fresh on a non-stick protective layer of greaseproof paper. This keeps the RubberGum™ fresh, allowing you to only use what you need, and re-use the leftover at a later date.  Staying fresh for an extended period of time is a huge advantage over standard silicone, as once as tube of silicone is opened, it needs to be used usually within 48 hours before it cures and is no longer fit for application. So up to this point, we have two huge advantages, with it minimising the potential mess, and the waste. Another huge benefit, is how easy it is to use. Simply lay it down by hand, bend it, shape it in any direction you wish. It's as easy to mould as plasticine or blu-tack, so you have complete control over the application of the RubberGum™. It's tacky, and holds things together, creating a tight and strong seal with it's molecular compound, but it does take a while to set. This means you can place the RubberGum™ in position, and then a couple of minutes later, lift it up and reposition. We are all aware, this is not an option with silicone as it is a wet glue like substance, which can be wiped away, but you run the risk of slight remnants and residue curing and leaving a mess behind. Continuing with the benefits theme, it can be argued that RubberGum™ creates a better and tighter seal than silicone. Without getting too technical with the science behind it, RubberGum™ essentially becomes stronger under pressure. The adhesive substance sticks to the surfaces, and under pressure compresses to form a tight seal. The pressure will essentially press out any imperfections and potential holes, that ordinarily would cause a leak. This does not happen with silicone, as once it is applied and begins to cure, if there are imperfections, or minute holes they will remain as the silicone cures, therefore leaving a leaking join. With RubberGum™ you can also trim away the excess to leave a neat finish. Once again this is not something that can be done with silicone. Siliconing neatly is difficult, and is technically an art form, like tiling properly. RubberGum™ takes the difficulty out of sealing the shower or other item, leaving the end result neat, tidy and aesthetically pleasing. Not only does it make sealing the shower much easier and neater, doing something notoriously fiddly, such as the dreaded kitchen sink, becomes a near on effortless task. You simply apply the RubberGum™ around the perimeter and then slot the sink in on top. So much easier than having it in position and siliconing under the edge to form a tight seal. RubberGum™ has more generic uses as well, it can be used to put posters on the walls of your bedroom (most likely the room of your children). Hanging balloons from a ceiling at a birthday party is an option, however not essentially advisable as it will be tricky to remove. You can even use RubberGum™ when putting up a shelf, not as a screw substitute, but as an addition to create a seal twice the strength.
