Your home shower could be your own, in-house doctor
We stumble upon some incredible facts about warm, cool, and cold showers, and we cannot wait to share them with you today. This study looked at how taking a warm shower affects the blood vessels and heart health in both young and older adults. To no one's surprise, they found that after a warm shower, the blood vessels relax and widen, allowing blood to flow more easily. This is good for the heart because it means less strain on the blood vessels and better blood flow throughout the body. But there's more! Did you know that depending on your age and health condition, you can choose a hot, cool, or cold shower to alter your physical symptoms? Let's review them!
Warm Showers (temperature around 32°C)
If you're feeling anxious or have done some vigorous exercise, a warm shower will bring your heart rate back to normal levels. According to the study we reviewed, a warm shower will reduce heart rate by about 15% and will lower blood pressure with about 12%!
But it gets better. Warm showers decrease stress hormone activity (renin, cortisol, aldosterone) and increase fluids discharge (yep, it's what you're thinking about - wee-wee times) by 107%.
Cool Showers (20°C)
If you want, however, to get rid of stress and anxiety whilst simultaneously increasing your metabolism and, yes, burning more energy and losing weight, then cool showers should be your thing. According to the research, when showering on 20°C you'll be burning energy 93% faster!
Cold Showers (14°C)
If you love extremes and are either not a woman or simply don't fall in the stereotype of women loving burning hot showers), you might want to boost your energy burning by 350%.... It sounds crazy, but this is what you get when you're not afraid of the cold. Be careful, though, cold showers can increase blood pressure and heart rate. On the positive side, however, there's a 163% increase in fluids discharge (so if you're feeling bloated, take a cold shower)
